I like this quote a lot. For two reasons. The first being the main idea of the quote. Training in general is pretty simple. Practice the most and you'll rise to the top. Sure, there is more to it than that, but overall things will pan out this way.
I experienced this first hand when I was running cross country in college. We had a minutes chart that logged the daily minutes that each team member ran. I noticed that there was almost a direct correlation between minutes run and thier place on the team. Top runner ran the most minutes etc. I wondered did they run the most because they were the best or were they the best because they ran the most. I decided to do a little experiment. I went from around 15th on the team with near the least minutes and upped my training for the next year. I improved to consistently one of the top three runners on the team and finished 16th in the entire NCAA Division II Northeast Region. I guess this could translate to "the one who wins is the one who runs the most minutes"
The second reason I like this one is how I came upon it. I heard Adam Grant who stated this quote from his diving coach Eric Best who was told this by his coach John Narcy. I chose the Blue and Maize theme because Narcy got a scholarship from the Michigan Football team, so he could dive at Michigan, but mainly because the football team wanted to recruit his best friend who was a standout football star. The plan worked. 😁
